John McCune Obituary

The services celebrating and honoring the life of John McCune, 66, of Tonkawa will be held privately at a later date.

John Ray McCune peacefully left his longtime home in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on March 8, 2019 to join his beloved daughter Amber in heaven.

John was born in Ponca City, Ok to J.C. and Katherine LaVerna McCune on June 5, 1952 and spent his childhood in Kaw City. He was baptized as a young boy in the First Christian Church of Kaw City. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1970 and attended college for a short time, but most of his education came from working in the oilfield for over 40 years. John married LaDonna Haen in 1971 where they established their home in Tonkawa and raised their children.

John enjoyed spending time with his life long runnin' buddies Davy Brown, Terry Nelson, Darrell Rowe, Larry Nelson, Dale McCune and Ron Hill fishing on the Salt
Fork. He also spent many hours at Royal Supply with Tom Sattre and his friends swapping oilfield stories. Buster Jones Jr. was his loyal dog and is deeply mourning
the loss of his best friend. John was a devoted sooner fan, owning every issue of Sooner Illustrated. He attended as many OU Texas games as he could.

In 2004 John married Patricia Levings. They spent their days together running the oil leases, gardening, and raising two grandsons. They loved and supported each
other throughout the 16 years of their time together
.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, grandsons Justin and Joey Howard of the home, one brother Jim and and his wife Carol McCune of Alabama, four children, Tracy
McCune, Regina and husband Chris LeMay, Julie Howard all of Tonkawa, and Joshua and wife Brandy Sensintaffar of Tulsa.

His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, Gavynn Stout, Harper Valentin, Jayden and Dylan Sharp, Justin and Joey Howard, and Tearney Nichols. Papa, as
he came to be known, was always ready to share his lifelong experiences and advice with them. Papa made each grandchild feel special and took an interest in
each of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Amber McCune.

There will be a celebration of John's life held at his favorite spot on the Salt Fork River at a later date.
